My Sahara Life is an exploration of dreams, love, loneliness,
anger and alcohol, and was finally released in 1995. Four of
the tracks are re-recorded songs from the New Domain album,
with a cover version of an earlier Cloud Of Dust song,
You Knocked Me Down from the Excalibur album.
This was a ground-breaking album in many ways. It was the
first album to be recorded using true multi-tracking (as opposed
to the 'bounce' multi-tracking method used on previous Cloud
Of Dust recordings). Also, this was the first time digital
effects were used, midi, true sampling, live drums and rock guitar!
The highlights of the album are the dreamy I Dream Of Eyes
featuring the bass guitar playing of Simon Pratt, sampled
drum loops, sexy sax, and keyboards which shimmer in amongst
the melody line. It's a gentle rap - with the word gentle
strongly emphasised. However, the chorus is sung (by Andy Hunt)
and helps to contrast with the spoken parts.
Pigeon Head features Andy Hunt on the drums, lead guitar
by ex-Burning Chrome
member Danny King-Britten, and bass guitar by Burning
Chrome's bassist, Simon Pratt. It's an up-beat funk/rock
number, dedicated to those people who can't keep their heads
still when they listen to music!
