New Domain was a new album in many ways, utilising
both new recording equipment and new keyboards.
Following a break in recording during 1987 and 1988, Cloud
Of Dust returned with new ideas and new experiences. The
studio changed as well, with the specially converted Mill Stream
studios providing enough space for the newly purchased equipment.
New Domain saw experimentation with new sounds and
new techniques. The album opens with distorted vocals on Two
Thousand and moves onto sampling on Good Vibration
and This Is The Cloud. This track, and The Lab Rap,
feature the vocals and songwriting assistance of Gary Tillett.
Earlier versions of New Domain also feature the original
versions of four tracks which were eventually to appear on My
Sahara Life. Mirage (Just The Girl), Sam, My Sahara Life,
and She Dreams About Me were all recorded in the original
tape to tape Cloud Of Dust method for this album, before
being re-recorded for the My Sahara Life Album.
New Domain was the last album to be recorded in the
same manner as the first album, and in some ways ends a Cloud
Of Dust era. Since New Domain, Cloud Of Dust's output
(of recorded material) has significantly diminished, apart from
My Sahara Life. However, much more music has been created
in the form of midi music files. |
