Volume 2 was also produced in 1983, rapidly following
behind the success of its predecessor, and ready to further explore
musical styles.
Volume 2, like Volume 1, retains the songs in
chronological order of recording, and the slow withdrawal of
Steve Richards from the music making can be seen, as the final
tracks on the album do not feature him at all. Instead, other
contributors start to appear, notably Nick Wilson-Smith who sang
French Cafe - a song which is regarded to be a Cloud
Of Dust classic.
Other notable tracks on Volume 2 include Gamma World
(Cry Of The Mutants), Time For A Nuclear War and Nuclear
Wasteland, all continuing the theme of nuclear war. However,
all was not so black, and We Need Science and No More
Sleepless Nights lighten the load.
A significant change in Cloud Of Dust's sound can be
heard from I Love You, when new percussion, in the form
of pre-recorded drum tracks, was used for the first time. |
