Instructions for turning your own handwriting into a True Type Font - Premium & Premium PLUS Service
Step 3 - How to scan and upload your forms
Here are the instructions for how to scan your completed handwriting font forms for upload to our server.
1. Set up your scanner and scanning software in preparation for the scan:-
- Place each completed form in the scanner as straight as possible.
- Scan the image as a gif, jpg, tif or PDF file.
- Select a scanning resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch). This is very important - setting the resolution too low or too high will not provide a satisfactory image. Font forms scanned at the correct resolution will be around 2,200 pixels or more wide, by 3,200 pixels or more high. If your form is smaller than this, you have not scanned it at the right resolution.
- Try to use the default settings for light intensity and contrast.
- Scan as a full colour image or 256 colour grey scale. Do not scan in black and white only.
- Scan the entire form. Do not crop the form - we can do that when we receive the image.
- Check the quality of the image. If you cannot produce an image with a clear contrast between the handwriting characters and pre-printed characters on the form, you will have to purchase a set of pre-printed forms in a Font Retail Pack (if you think the forms you printed are too dark), or send the completed forms in the mail.
2. Scan each form and save it as Form1 [Your Name], Form2 [Your Name], etc.
- It is important to include your name in the filename of the form and your e-mail address on the form itself to help us marry it up with your submission form.
- Ensure that the entire form is included in the scanned image. It is very important that the corner crop marks (see example opposite) are visible, to ensure that the form can be re-sized for the software to read it.
3. Once you have successfully scanned the forms at a resolution of 300 dpi you can proceed with submitting the forms for conversion. After completing the submission form and uploading the form image files you will automatically be taken to the payment page.
4. If you have any problems and are unable to follow these instructions, please go here to find out how to send the forms in the mail.
Please retain your forms in case there are any problems with the scans and we ask you to re-scan and re-submit.
