Make sure you use a good quality pen.

Copy out the natural handwriting examples exactly as written.

Step 2 - Filling out the forms

You should now have some good quality copies of the handwriting font forms ready to be filled in.

If any of the forms have printed onto more than one page, or the edges are missing, please go back to the Form 1, Form 2, Form 3, or Form 4 and adjust the margins using Page Setup.

General Tips For Filling Out The Forms

You will complete the forms by writing your handwriting characters in each of the spaces provided. (See further below).

Fill out the forms using a good quality pen. Black ink provides the best results.
A pen which provides a thicker stroke is most preferable. (Not too thick - the font will appear slightly thicker than your sample!)
A medium point fibre-tipped pen is also suitable.
A ball point pen should provide reasonable results.
Do not use pencil.

We will first explain how to fill out the 'natural' handwriting on Forms 1 and 4, and then explain how to complete the rest of the forms.

Please do not write on the forms until you have read all of the instructions.

Natural Handwriting On Form 1

There is section of Form 1 that requires you to write naturally. Copy out the required words ('the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog's back') in the spaces provided.

Please write all letters in lower case (NO CAPITALS)
Use the faint lines marked with an arrow as your baseline. (See example).
Do not cross any of the bold lines with your handwriting

Form 4 has blank lines on which you should provide more examples of your natural handwriting.

Use the faint, arrowed line as your baseline, as per Form 1.
You may require more than one copy of Form 4 to complete all of the required words.
Please ensure you copy out the words below exactly as they are given (e.g. use capitals and lower case letters as requested).
IMPORTANT: The letters you write must be darker than the baseline. The example above is a good illustration of the contrast between the letters on the form and the handwriting.
If you have any problems or are unable to print out the forms faintly, please go here to purchase a set of pre-printed forms in a Retail Font Pack. In any case, you should retain your forms in the event that we have problems processing them.
Try to write as naturally as possible.
However, do not 'scrawl' your handwriting. If your letters are too uneven, the handwriting font will not look natural.

Completing The Oval Sections On Forms 1 to 3

IMPORTANT: The pre-printed letters on the form are only there to show the characters that should be written in each space. They are not an indication of the actual size of the letter you should write. You should write in your normal sized handwriting, directly over each letter.

Each character has its own oval entry area on the form. The line in the bottom half of the oval is the base line or writing line.

Your main letters or characters should sit on the baseline. See examples below.
Some characters (e.g. the apostrophe ') sit above or below the line. Use the pre-printed letters on the form as a guide on how position your letters with the baseline.
Remember, you should not re-create your own handwriting to the same size as the examples. However, DO NOT WRITE TOO SMALL. In our example below, you can see that all of the letters are smaller than the pre-printed examples, and the apostrophe is comparatively lower.
IMPORTANT!: Each letter most not go outside of its own oval area.

IMPORTANT: The letters you write must be darker than the baseline. The example above is a good illustration of the contrast between the letters on the form and the handwriting.
Try to write as naturally as possible. Many people have a tendency to print when filling out forms.
However, do not 'scrawl' your handwriting. If your letters are too uneven, the handwriting font will not look natural.
Do your best to give all the characters a uniform slant.
Try to keep the size of characters in proportion, i.e. upper case letters larger than lower case letters.
IMPORTANT!: Write each character centrally in the printed field.
If you have a cursive (joined up) handwriting style, please use Form 1 to provide PLAIN PRINTED VERSIONS of your capital letters. When you make your payment, you will have the option to purchase the Premium PLUS service, that will include a second font containing the printed capitals rather than the cursive ones you will supply on Form 4.
For the lower case special characters (e.g. á, è, ö, etc) please use only down strokes on your characters. (See illustration). These characters are not edited as part of the service unless you specifically request them, so by following this instruction they will reproduce successfully without any additional attention.
If you wish, you do not need to write every single character on the form, especially if you think you will never need them. Any characters which are missed will be automatically created by our software. These generated characters will be approximations only, but will be there if you ever need them!
If you are adding a signature on form 3, please ensure you write within the box, using the baseline as for the other characters. If you feel that this box is too small, you may write your signature on Form 4 instead.

The Premium PLUS Service - CAPITAL letters on Form 1
If you have a cursive handwriting style, which includes cursive capital letters, you may wish to take advantage of our Premium PLUS Service.
When we produce your font, we usually use the capital letters that you have provided on the natural handwriting forms. Cursive capitals don't always work If these are particularly cursive (joined to the following letters), they will not work well if you want to produce entire words in capitals (see example, right).
If you wish to purchase the Premium PLUS Service, please complete the capitals on Form 1 using a simple, printed style, as it you were writing a whole sentence in capital letters. We will then use these letters to produce a second font, identical to the first, except for the fact we use your printed capital letters.

If you make a mistake on any of your forms, don't worry. Just go back to Form 1, Form 2, Form 3, or Form 4 to print out another copy and start again.
