What is the Scriptalizer™ software?
Note: For potential customers who wish to try a DEMONSTRATION of the Scriptalizer™ software before they buy, please see the box on the right hand side of the page for instructions >
The Scriptalizer™ software is used exclusively with the Quantum Enterprises Premium 'Ultra' Handwriting Font Service, to enhance the appearance of your personal handwriting font.
It is a small, standalone program that does not require complicated installation, does not use macros, and only requires that it is saved along with the relevant Configuration (config) file in the same folder (see below).
It works by typing or pasting the text you want to enhance into a window. Clicking the Scriptalize! button enhances the text, which is shown in a second window. This enhanced text can then be copied and pasted into a word processor of your choice.

System Requirements
Any PC capable of running Windows 95 or above.
A PC with 2MB or RAM or greater is recommended for converting large volumes of text at any one time.
Note: This software is currently not available for Macintosh.
The program works by accessing and replacing additional characters within the Premium 'Ultra' handwriting font, to produce a more natural looking handwriting effect.
This replacement is not totally random - the software also uses a Configuration file that contains information about the personal handwriting style encoded within it.
The software allows you to convert any text into a more realistic looking handwritten font.
Important Note: This software is designed to work exclusively and only with Premium 'Ultra' Service Fonts created by Quantum Enterprises. It is not compatible with any other handwriting font services. However, a Premium 'Ultra' Font is entirely usable as a high quality handwriting font on its own, without the use of the Scriptalizer™ software.

Demonstration Font
For customer's who want to see a demonstration of the Scriptalizer™ before you make a purchase, you also need to save the following configuration file config1.txt into the SAME folder as the Scriptalizer™ program file. (Right click on the filename and select 'Save As...' to save it, ensuring you keep the same filename and .txt extension). This file contains specific settings for this user's handwriting.
To install the example Premium 'Ultra' font QELisaHuntPU.ttf
Right click on the above font filename and select 'Save As...' to save the font file. See below for further details regarding the version of Windows you are using.
Windows XP
Save the font file into your windows\fonts directory. The directory path is normally c:\windows\fonts or c:\WINNT\fonts. (Save using the same filename that the font has been given, including the .ttf extension).
Saving the font into your fonts folder will normally install the font without any further action. If you cannot find the font listed when you open a word processor, the easiest thing is to re-start you computer and the font will be installed. Alternatively, you can open Control Panel and then open the Fonts folder. Opening the Fonts folder is usually enough to ensure that the font is installed.
Windows Vista & Windows 7
Save the font file anywhere in your 'Documents' folder. (Save using the same filename that the font has been given, including the .ttf extension).
Locate the font file where is has been saved and right-click on it. In the menu that appears after right-clicking, select 'Install' and confirm that this is OK to do. The font will now be installed.

IMPORTANT: Do not change the filename
The are no restrictions on where this file has to be saved. The only restriction is that your configuration file (e.g. config1.txt) is also saved in the SAME FOLDER.
Simply by ensuring that the Scriptalizer.exe and config1.txt files are saved in the same folder with the correct filename, the software is ready to use.
You may wish to add a shortcut to the Scriptalizer™ program on your desktop. Here is how to do this:
- Locate the folder containing the Scriptalizer.exe file and copy the file (either by selecting File > Copy on the menu, or right mouse click and select 'Copy').
- Go to your computer's Desktop and right mouse click. Select 'Paste Shortcut' from the menu. A shortcut to the program will appear on your Desktop.
IMPORTANT: Only copy and paste. Do not cut and paste. Do not move the Scriptalizer.exe file into a different folder from your config1.txt file.

How to use the program
You will see the following window when you run the program:

Clicking on this image shows a full view with Scriptalized text
and optional handwriting 'mistakes'
The program interface consists of two main windows:
The default layout for the software consists of two horizontal upper and lower windows (as above).
You can also re-arrange the windows to two vertical left and right windows using the menu (see below).

Shows Scriptalizer™ in vertical window mode
The Upper Window (or left window if you have re-arranged the windows) is used to enter the text to be converted. You can either type directly in this window, or paste text from another application.
Clicking anywhere in this window will clear the instructions text you see when you start the program.
Clear Text
Clicking the 'Clear Text' button will also clear the instructions text from the Upper (Left) and Lower (Right) Windows. Clicking the button again will bring the instructions back.
The Lower Window (or right window if you have re-arranged the windows) shows the modified text after it has been 'Scriptalized' (i.e. certain letters have been replaced with alternatives).
Initially this window provides you with basic instructions on how to use the software. These will disappear when you 'Scriptalize' your handwriting.
If you see strange symbols when you click the Scriptalize! button it is because you have not yet successfully installed your Premium 'Ultra' handwriting font, or your config.file is not located in the same folder as the Scriptalizer.exe program file. Please go back to the Help & Tips Section to find out how to install your font or ensure that the config file is on the correct location..
The buttons between the two windows have the following functions:
Scriptalize!
The Scriptalize! button 'naturalises' the any text in the upper (left) window and reproduces it as handwritten text in the lower (right) window. It's fascinating to watch printed text become your own handwriting!
The Scriptalizer™ works by applying the font name loaded by the current configuration, replacing many of the letters with alternatives provided within the Premium 'Ultra' font, and using the settings loaded from the configuration file.
In addition, you can select an average frequency that the Scriptalizer™ adds handwriting 'mistakes'. (See 'Frequency Of Mistakes' further down this page).
When you are Scriptalizing documents of more than a few hundred characters, you may notice a Status Bar appear below the lower window. The Status Bar shows the progress of the Scriptalizer™ as it replaces the characters. You may find that larger documents (more than 50,000 characters) take several minutes to Scriptalize, depending on the speed of your PC's processor, and the amount of memory (RAM) you have installed.
De-Scriptalize
The De-Scriptalize button is a new feature that allows you to convert Scriptalized text in the bottom window back into standard text in the top window. This is useful if you have previously created some Scriptalized text and now need to present it in a font that is not a Premium 'Ultra' Font.
Font Name & Size Selection
![]()
The small window should contain the name of your Premium 'Ultra' handwriting font.
(If it shows 'No config', your configuration file may be missing or in a different folder - see Frequently Asked Questions below).
The drop down box alongside the font name window allows you to change the point size of the font displayed in the lower window. The optimum size for your font is pre-defined in the configuration file, and loaded when you open the program.
Copy Text
Clicking on this button copies the text from the lower window (or right window) into your computer's memory (the 'clipboard'). You can then paste the text into your favourite word processor.
Important Notes:
1. When you paste your text into a word processor, you may see various strange symbols. This is probably because you have not pre-selected your Premium 'Ultra' handwriting font as the font to be used in your document. This is quite normal and not a concern. Simply select the text that you have pasted and change the font to the name of your Premium 'Ultra' font. Your text will then look like it is written in your own handwriting.
2. If your word processor is set to spell check as you type (and/or indicates misspelled words with underlining), you will find that your Scriptalized text shows many spelling errors, even though the words are spelled correctly. This is because your word processor does not recognise the fact that alternative symbols have been used for some of the letters.
Of you are concerned about making spelling errors, it is best to pre-write your text in a word processor, check the spelling, then paste the text into the Scriptalizer™.
Change Configuration
The CF buttons are only required if more than one Premium 'Ultra' font is to be used on a single computer. For example, if you have purchased a Premium 'Ultra' handwriting font, but someone else who uses the same computer also wishes to purchase a Premium 'Ultra' font, then they will use a different Configuration button.
The program uses CF1 (Configuration 1) by default. If you are the only Premium 'Ultra' font user, you do not need to change anything.
If someone else wishes to use the Scriptalizer™ software, their font configuration file will be named config2.txt. When they use the software, they must click the CF2 button before clicking the Scriptalize! button. This will load the settings for their font.
Similarly, a third user would use the CF3 button.
Menu Options And Menu Shortcuts
This section describes the menu options.
To make it even easier to use the Scriptalizer™ software, particularly if you are doing a lot of 'cutting and pasting' in and out of the program, we have added some shortcut keys to speed up the process. These are accessible via the 'File' and 'Edit' menu items.

Frequency Of Mistakes
If you have purchased a Version 3.00 or higher Premium 'Ultra' Handwriting font and you are using Version 3 of higher of the software, you can choose to allow the Scriptalizer™ to make random 'mistakes' at a frequency you choose (click on the example icon to see what an average frequency of one mistake in ten looks like).
Note that, by default, the Scriptalizer™ is set to produce no mistakes.
You can choose the Scriptalizer™ to make 'mistakes' at the following frequencies:
- None
- 1 in 10
- 1 in 50
- 1 in 100
- 1 in 1,000
- 1 in 5,000
Once you have set this frequency, the Scriptalizer™ will continue to use this frequency until the program is closed.
The Scriptalizer™ creates a 'mistake' by looking at each word and deciding whether it should be an error, based on the frequency that you have selected. If the word is going to be an error, one random letter is changed in the word and it is then crossed out by an error character of the correct length that you have provided.
This produces errors that are never identical and adds further realism to the handwriting font.
(Note: If no error characters are provided with the font forms, a default single line will be used as the error character).

The lower window is not showing my font. What do I do?
The lower window will not show your font until you click the Scriptalize! button for the first time. If you have clicked the Scriptalize! button and the font has not changed into your handwriting font, then check to see if your font name is in the Font Window. If the Font Window does not show your font name or shows 'No config', please go to the next question below.
Why is my font name not showing in the Font Name Window?
If your font name is not showing in the Font Window, then the most likely cause is that your configuration file (e.g. config1.txt) has not been saved into the same folder as the Scriptalizer.exe program file.
Find the folder that contains the Scriptalizer.exe file and check to see if config1.txt (or config2.txt or config3.txt for other users) is there in the same folder. If not, search for the file and copy it into the same folder as the Scriptalizer.exe program file.
Why, when I click the Scriptalize! button, do I see strange symbols?
If you see strange symbols when you click the Scriptalize! button rather than your handwriting, it is because you have not yet successfully installed your Premium 'Ultra' handwriting font. Please go back to the Help & Tips Section to find out how to install your font.
Why does my word processor tell me that words are spelled incorrectly - even when they're not?
If your word processor it set to spell check as you type (and/or indicates misspelled words with underlining), you will find that your Scriptalized text shows many spelling errors, even though the words are spelled correctly. This is because your word processor does not recognise the fact that alternative symbols have been used for some of the letters. It is best to pre-write your text in a word processor, check the spelling, then use the Scriptalizer™.
What happens if there are more than 3 users who want to use the Scriptalizer™ on the same computer?
It is easily possible for more than three users to use the Scriptalizer™ software on the same computer. All you will need to do is save another copy of the program (and relevant config files) to a different folder, and use that copy of the program.
Why is my Premium 'Ultra' Font is not showing any handwritten 'mistakes', even when I select a frequency of 1 in 10?
For the Scriptalizer™ to show handwritten 'mistakes', the following requirements must be met:
- You have at least a Version 3 Premium 'Ultra' Font (i.e. made after Jan 06 2009)
- You are using at least Version 3 or above of the Scriptalizer™ software.
Can I use a Scriptalized Premium 'Ultra' Font for mail-merging?
Yes, you can certainly use Scriptalized Premium 'Ultra' Fonts with the Microsoft Word mail-merging application. Provided that the software supports the extended ascii characters, then you should have no problems. If you have any doubts, then we recommend that you download the example font provided on this page and try it in the application you intend to use it on.
