~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi all,
Welcome to the second newsletter, giving further information about
our forthcoming cyber-wedding on the Internet.
Things have been happening here in the last week or so. We've been
able to finalise which server network we'll be using for IRC with
Mike Bugal's help. Mike has put us in contact with the IRC adminis-
trator for the UK Undernet server, who has offered his services on
the day.
In addition, we have some exciting news about the possibilites of
you being able to watch us on CU-SeeMe video, and suggestions about
which IRC client to use.
Contents
1. Confirmation of Internet Relay Chat details.
2. Which IRC client do we recommend?
3. You may be able watch us on CUSeeMe!
IRC DETAILS
We can now confirm that the IRC blessing and wedding will take place
on the UNDERNET network. The Undernet servers seem to be less prone
to 'splits', and we also have the support of the administrator of
the UK Undernet Server.
Glynn Stanton was contacted by our Seattle-based minister, Mike
Bugal. Glynn will be overseeing the technical aspects of the IRC
ceremonies on the day, with the help of Robert Nash, who is our
'virtual' usher based in Taunton in the UK.
During the ceremonies the channel will be moderated. This will
prevent anyone other than the minister, the bride, and the groom
from talking in the channel. Between the ceremonies the channel will
remain open, but everyone will be allowed to communicate. We're
hoping that you'll all stick around for the course of the evening.
THE BEST IRC CLIENT
If you are a PC user, we'd like to recommend the mIRC client as the
best software to join in the celebrations with. It's available in
both 16 and 32 bit flavours, and is extremely configurable. If you
havn't tried it and would like to find out more, the home page is
located at:-
http://www.mirc.co.uk/
mIRC allows pre-programmed server lists, channel lists, chat logs,
DCC chats, DCC file exchanges, as well as triggered audio files
amongst many of the features. It's easy to set up, and can be
customised to your own preferences.
Don't forget, any IRC client will do on the day - we're just
suggesting one which we think does the best job on the PC.
CU-SEEME VIDEO!
We cannot guarantee that this will be available on the day - there
are several technical hurdles to overcome - but we can confirm that
Taunton Cyber (the Cyber Cafe where we will be holding the IRC w
edding) has obtained the hardware and software for CU-SeeMe video.
CU-SeeMe can broadcast live video images over the Internet. You do
not need to have any special additional equipment to view these
images, provided you have a computer which meets the minimum require
ments for the software. The software, and further details can be
found at the following Web site:-
http://goliath.wpine.com/cu-seeme.html
CUSeeMe usually only provides a video frame rate of 1 or 2 per
second over a normal dial-up Internet connection, but it will be an
exciting additional way to be invloved with the on-line ceremonies.
If things go to plan, as well as seeing our words on the screen, you
will also be able to see live images of as as we are sitting at our
terminals!
More news as we get it...
Finally, we are aiming to re-vamp our home page
(http://www.u-net.com/~andyhunt/) in the next week, with more
up-to-date information as we get it, and transcriptions of the
newsletters as we produce them. Don't forget to keep checking in on
Cloud9 to see the latest news about the wedding, and any further
publicity we have attracted.
Mike Bugal's web page, the 'Cyberspace Social Page', can be found at
http://www.seanet.com/~gypsy95/
You will be able to find our Banns of marriage on there, which
announces our intention to be married on the 'Net, and asks if
anyone can find any 'virtual' reason why we can't!
Oh, and don't forget to send your RSVP's regarding whether or not
you'll be able to join us on IRC on the big day. We'd like to hear
back from you so we have an idea how many will be 'attending'.
Best regards to everyone...
