A COUPLE from Somerset are getting married
on the Internet - thanks to the efforts of a Diocesan vicar.
Vicar of Lyndhurst, The Revd Peter Murphy, also an Internet fan,
will perform a blessing on line, with guests tuning in from America.
Englishman Andrew Hunt met his American wife-to-be Lisa Grosso
while he was surfing on the Internet and the couple thought it
appropriate to use computers for their big day.
Lisa said: "We figured it was fitting to get married on
the Internet as it was how we first met. The problem was we needed
a priest who would be willing to bless us on the Internet. Thankfully
Peter rang and offered to do it." |
Lisa's brother will be on line from Wisconsin
to give the bride away.
Because of British law, the couple have to attend a licensed
building for the actual marriage, so after a service at Taunton
Register office, the reception will be held at Taunton cyber-cafe,
where they will link with guests from all over the world.
Lisa said: "I am getting nervous now but looking forward
to the day."
Revd Peter Murphy said: "It is more genuine than it sounds.
They met on the Internet and want to celebrate that fact and
incorporate it into their day.
"In fact, it fulfills the original idea of reading the wedding
banns for all to hear. Now that we are a global village, why
not put it on the Internet for all to see?"
