Before we start, what does all the jargon mean?

Here are some explanations of the terms regarding the Internet, World Wide Web and web design.

  • The Internet - A huge network of computers all connected to together that allow transfer of information around the world.
  • World Wide Web - A certain way to display and share information using pages containing 'hyperlinks'.
  • Website - A set of web pages that are usually all housed on the same web host (see hosting below) and cover a single subject, idea, or business.
  • Web Design - The creation of a website.
  • Hyperlinks - Also known just as links, these allow different web pages to be linked together. Text or images can be defined as a hyperlink. When the link is clicked on it takes the user to another part of the page, another page on the website, or even a completely different website. Links also allow files to be downloaded.
  • Hosting - The housing of your website on a computer hooked up to the World Wide Web.
  • Domain name - The 'address' of your website. e.g. The address of this website is www.quantumenterprises.co.uk/webdesign
  • Domain Name Server (DNS) - The computers on the Internet don't understand domain names as words. Instead they see them as a series of numbers separated by dots. The Domain Name Service translates the written address into a numerical address, and vice versa.

How much will a website cost me?

The cost of a website is very much dependent on many factors: how many pages, how complex the design, whether a shopping cart is required, etc.

On our Home page we give some examples of typical prices for different types of websites.

These are a guide only and you should visit the Prices page for a detailed breakdown of how much your website could cost.

Can I look at other websites that have already been designed by Quantum Enterprises Web Design?

All of the websites that have been designed by Quantum Enterprises and are currently available on the web can be viewed on our Portfolio page. Unlike some web design companies we haven't picked just the best ones. On that note, some of our websites were designed a while ago and are due for an update soon!

I would like Quantum Enterprises to take over the maintenance of my website. What do I need to do?

The first thing you need to do is Contact Us to discuss your requirements.

If you decide to use Quantum Enterprises Web Design service, we'd like to take on the whole management of your web presence. We'd prefer to register (or transfer) your domain with us, and allow us manage the hosting of your website. (See below for an explanation of the transfer process).

Allowing us to completely manage your website means that you'll only get invoiced by one company, and will not have lots of control panel passwords to manage or remember.

Your domain name will be automatically renewed, so it cannot lapse or be purchased by another company. Our web hosting is extremely cost-efficient and allows you access to a whole range of features that we cannot offer if you have your website hosted elsewhere.

If we take over your website, we will probably need to make some initial modifications to allow us edit it when you require changes. We will advise you of these costs when you request the transfer.

How do I transfer my domain name to Quantum Enterprises control?

Domain transfers are not as complicated as you may think. Follow the steps below and you will find domain transfers are easy and certainly not as complicated as some people may have you believe.

US Domain Transfer Procedure

Non-UK domains require an EPP code.

An EPP Code (also referred to as an Auth Code or an Authorisation Code) provides an extra level of security for the domain name registration. The authorisation code is unique for each domain name and is assigned by the registrar at the time the domain name is registered.

To obtain the EPP code, you MUST contact the current registration company to obtain it. A domain cannot be transferred without this authority code.

Once you have the code, please let us know what it is.

Finally, ensure that the domain is 'UNLOCKED for TRANSFER' at the current registration company and that the Administrative Contact of the domain can receive emails.

Once you've completed the above:

The US registrar will then:
1) Contact the administrative contact of the domain via email to verify that they approve of the transfer. Once verified they
2) Check the domain is unlocked for transfer and move it across to your account with us for management.
3) We confirm the transfer via email to you.

If any of the above fails, the transfer will fail and you will receive an email from us telling you why. As always though, if you need help please let us know.

UK Domain Transfer Procedure

Transferring a UK domain is even simpler.

All you need to do is change the IPS TAG of your domain to NETDEVELOPMENT
You may be able to do this through your current control panel, or by requesting the current domain registration company to change it for you.

Once the IPS TAG has been changed, within approximately 24 hours (at most)* your domain will be transferred and ready for us to manage. We will then confirm the transfer to you via email.

Note: Do not change the tag BEFORE you have requested us to initiate the domain transfer (and we have confirmed the initiation) or it will be rejected.

Should you have any questions about the process before or during, please contact us.We're only too happy to help.

*It shouldn't take any longer than this in normal circumstances, however, any delays will be due to the registrar you are leaving delaying in processing the tag change.

Will you look after my website when the initial design is completed?

One of the key features of our service is the on-going maintenance of client websites. Whereas we can set up your website so that you have some editable control (see below), we offer a very cost effective update service. Costs are based on our Standard Hourly Rate, but charged to the nearest minute of work. A simple text change (particularly if you've supplied the text in an e-mail, which we can copy and paste) takes only a minute or two.

Allowing us to completely manage your website means that you'll only get invoiced by one company, and will not have lots of control panel passwords to manage or remember.

Your domain name will be automatically renewed, so it cannot lapse or be purchased by another company.

Can I edit my own website?

Yes. You can specify that you require your website to be editable either when we start the design process, or retrospectively after the website has been completed. This is because we don't build your website within an existing content management system. Instead we use 'Perch', which allows us to define sections of the website then you will be able to edit. Please see our Price List for the cost of a make your website content editable.

Back to Menu

Do you offer a web design service without web hosting?

No problem. Provided that you can give us the necessary login details for transferring the new website using FTP, you can stay with your existing hosting company if you wish.

Back to Menu

What technical support do you offer?

Most technical support related to your website comes free of charge. This includes phone calls and replies to e-mails to explain the solution to your problem. If we feel that the work required comes outside of the free technical support remit, we will inform you before it costs you anything.

We can also offer a service that will allow a remote connection to your PC, so that we can help set up your emails, configure, optimise and repair your PC without even having to visit.

Can you get my website to the top of Google?

We'd like to say 'yes' to this question, but there are many, many factors that affect how Google ranks your website. At Quantum Enterprises Web Design we understand the elements of a website that allow Google to give it a good page ranking. However, we cannot control the amount of competition for keywords, nor how much other companies are prepared to pay for search engine optimisation.

We will do our best, and have a proven track record of improving search engine rankings for websites we have taken on.
